Business Consulting — frequently asked questions

Honest answers about how we work, what we charge, and what to expect before, during and after an engagement.

General questions

Most projects run between four and ten weeks. A cash-flow diagnostic usually wraps up in four weeks. A full operational restructure, where we redesign workflows and retrain staff, tends to take eight to ten. We agree the timeline before any work begins, and it is written into the fixed-fee proposal.

Yes, provided the company has at least six months of trading history and annual revenue above roughly £80,000. Pre-revenue startups are outside our focus because our methods rely on real financial data to identify problems and measure improvement. If you are pre-revenue, we can recommend partner firms that specialise in early-stage advice.

We offer a one-day strategy workshop priced at £1,200 plus VAT. It includes two hours of preparation (reviewing materials you send in advance), a six-hour facilitated workshop at your premises, and a written summary delivered within 48 hours. Many clients use this as a low-commitment way to test whether a longer engagement makes sense.

About 60% of our work is with professional services firms (accountancies, recruitment agencies, marketing agencies) and light manufacturing companies. The remaining 40% spans logistics, retail, and hospitality. We do not take on clients in sectors we have no experience in, because generic advice wastes your money.

Our office is in Northern Ireland. We travel across the UK for on-site work and cover our own travel costs within the fixed fee for engagements over four weeks. For shorter projects we may suggest remote delivery if your team is comfortable with video calls, though we find on-site days produce better results.

Fees and payment

We quote a fixed fee for every engagement. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices. You receive the full price before signing anything, broken into two or three milestone payments depending on project length. The first payment (typically 30%) is due when we start; the remainder is tied to deliverable milestones.

If the delay is on our side, we absorb the extra time at no additional cost. If the scope changes because you want to add new workstreams, we issue a short change-order document with the revised fee and timeline for your approval before doing any extra work. No one gets a surprise bill.

For engagements above £8,000 we can split the fee into three monthly payments at no extra charge. We do not currently offer financing or credit terms beyond that. All invoices are payable within 14 days of issue.

You can cancel within the first five working days of an engagement and receive a full refund minus any documented expenses already incurred. After that, you pay for work completed up to the cancellation date. We have never had a client cancel mid-project, but we think a fair exit clause matters.

Working together

The consultant who leads your diagnostic is the same person who delivers the project. We do not use a "sell and switch" model where a senior partner wins the deal and hands it to a junior. Our team has four senior consultants, each with at least twelve years of industry experience. You will know exactly who is assigned before you sign.

During the two-day diagnostic we need about three hours from each key stakeholder (usually the founder, finance lead, and operations manager). During the main engagement, expect one to two hours a week from those same people for check-ins and approvals. We handle the heavy lifting ourselves.

Every project includes a 90-day follow-up review at no extra cost. We schedule a half-day session roughly three months after handover to check whether the changes have stuck, troubleshoot any issues, and adjust the action plan if needed. Beyond that, many clients move to a monthly retainer for ongoing advisory support.

Absolutely. We sign a mutual non-disclosure agreement before the diagnostic begins. All client data is stored on encrypted drives and deleted 12 months after the engagement ends unless you ask us to retain it. We never share client names, financials, or strategies in marketing materials without written permission.
